FundRazr makes progress

We’re thinking of cloning ourselves.

It would prove really useful so that we could get twice as many of the great features out there that we’re building in, but there’s only so much we can get done in one day.

The great news FundRazr is off and running like bulls in the streets of Pamplona! We have over 160 closed beta codes out there now and over 60 people using our application but we want more! We also want more feedback as it’s hugely valuable to us.

We’re very excited to have customers with active organizations that can accept fee and donation payments now. Money is actually flowing through our system and we made a tiny bit of revenue! Remember to email us to be turned on to accept payments.

One campaign, set up just a few days go, has already raised over $250.

Jen’s family has been devastated by the storms in the Philippines, and this fund has been set up to support them.  You show your support by visiting here.

FundRazr is adding a hot new navigation feature

FundRazr Navigator is your personal gateway to your FundRazr network.

The FundRazr team has built a fantastic new feature to make it much easier to access, navigate and manage the organization(s) you’ve set up.

We listened to the feedback from our testers and made some significant changes. Next week we’re releasing our FundRazr Navigator feature.

With one click on the FundRazr Navigator link you can see and access all of your FundRazr organizations and find out what has been happening since you last visited.

FundRazr Navigator is easily reached from these places:

1. At the bottom of the application

Add to favorites

2. At the top of your Facebook profile favorites box

FundRazr-Favorites

3. From your FundRazr application bookmark

4. From the application menu bar at the bottom left corner of Facebook

What does FundRazr Navigator do?

When you click on the FundRazr Navigator link you are directed to a summary page. Here you can see the most recent activity for your organization(s) such as membership invites to another organization, donations made to a campaign and fees you may owe.

The `My Organizations’ tab is where you can see and access any organization you are an administrator, member or supporter of.

We’re excited about this new feature and hope you are too.

Stay tuned for more updates on FundRazr!

The launch week that was for the small start up with a big heart

Over 120 Closed Beta code requests and counting.

insidefacebook_blog front page fundrazrLong hours, Facebook issues, Telus network disruptions and more coffee. On the positive side the response post TechCrunch50 has been awesome and we’ve received even more press including the front page of the bible we read diligently – Inside Facebook.

It’s hard to explain how it feels when the email delivered to my inbox daily, that I read to get the latest news, suddenly features us as as the news!
After that article was published we got a flurry of beta code requests which has kept everyone busy. I also think that Matt Holliday who wrote the article did a better job than me at summarising what we do!

At the heart of the application, FundRazr allows any individual or organization to easily collect online payments. But there are several built-in features that expand this application functionality beyond money collection; analytic and reporting tools give users the ability to track results, and there’s even help when creating a campaign. The application can be tailored to take on unique appearances and functions, as it is designed for social sites and has no set template.

FundRazr is intended for easy money collection for a variety of purposes, such as charity events, sports teams, school clubs, social groups and more. It’s interactive, social focus makes it an excellent way to spread word of causes and campaigns through Facebook, getting out a viral message with a built-in method for collecting donations and payments.

The application is available now in Beta on Facebook; all that’s needed to sign up is a free access code. It should be beneficial to smaller businesses non-profits, school and church groups and anyone operating on a fixed budget without the funds or time to track down donations and payments.”

We’re super excited about the range of people asking to start using FundRazr from all over the world. The unique needs that they have are helping us see just how many different needs  FundRazr can be a solution for. Even some we hadn’t yet considered like fraternities and collecting tenancy fees! The response from Europe has been really surprising too and we can’t wait to offer payments in international currencies and different language versions of our application.

We’re staggering giving out access codes to FundRazr so we can ensure we are fully supporting our Closed Beta Customers, so if you’re reading this and wondering where it is – don’t worry it’s on its way!

Finally, Daryl has been making movie history with his onscreen presence – yes another YouTube video which you can view below. This one was taken by the folks at PayPal in the TC50 demopit. Enjoy

How to launch and demo in one day

One team, two countries and a big day for ConnectionPoint

Launching FundRazr live on Tuesday 15 September at TechCrunch50 is certainly a day to remember for ConnectionPoint. Half of the team started rocking up to the office here in Vancouver from 7am onwards. Daryl & Andrew were up around 5:30am and off to the TechCrunch Conference venue in San Francisco to set up the demopit table, screen and more.

I think this video from Daryl live at the demopit perfectly sums up what it was all about for us:

Key highlights from the day were:

  • Google search rankings for FundRazr tripled
  • Google search rankings for ConnectionPoint Systems went from 60,000 up to 160K at one point
  • Hits on our blog: Rose from 1940 before launch day and are now at 2243
  • New followers on Twitter and shout outs from PayPal X, Hootsuite, BootupLabs and people viewing our app down at TechCrunch
  • Views of our YouTube FundRazr pitch video fro TC50 competition – from 0-99
  • Beta code requests – yesterday around 15 by the end of today 60+!

What’s more exciting on that front is that I’ve responded to every email to ask more about their needs and what they’d use FundRazr for and the responses have been amazing. Real customers who totally get how FundRazr can help them straight away, ranging from nonprofits, teams, clubs, organisations, events and fundraisers from all over the world – from Estonia to Dublin! It validates everything we’ve worked towards and makes it real.

And then the media buzz.

I had fired off our press release featuring PayPal X at 2pm across 5 free press websites, out to the TC50 Media list of over 100 key contacts and to our local friends and business contacts in Vancouver. As I checked my Blackberry late on Tuesday night I saw Google Alert after Google alert coming in.

First page of the PayPal blog on launch day.
Wednesday morning we were front page of TechCrunch thanks to their media efforts and the blog is expected to receive 623,505 daily visits!
This obviously is huge as now everyone’s tweeting about it – see the real time results at TweetMe

The adrenalin is slowly wearing off and we’re realising just how tiring launching can be, now for the real test – making sure our customers love our application as much as we do.

Today is the day we launch FundRazr to the world

Newsflash: We are extremely happy to announce that we’ve officially launched FundRazr

FundRazr is the easiest way to collect money and manage members online. We think of it as fast acting pain relief from fundraising and fee collection headaches. It’s a Facebook application that can be installed and set up within minutes and we think it’s sexy, savvy and super useful.

fr-logo-large_1000x218Yes it’s 7:30am and this moment has been a long time coming. It’s been made even more challenging by having to be in stealth mode, as one of just 100 companies launching today at the TechCrunch50 demopit in San Francisco, where the exclusive closed beta version of FundRazr is being released.

TechCrunch50

What does this mean? Well it’s a huge platform on which to launch to the technology industry’s most influential venture capitalists, corporations, angel investors, fellow entrepreneurs and the international media. It also means we get one day to go crazy on creating buzz for our application, our company, our team and our future.

What’s more we are even more excited to announce that we are fully integrated with the new Adaptive Payments API from PayPal X, PayPal’s payments platform.

PayPalIn a stroke of luck, karma and great timing, we were invited in June to participate in the closed beta program for PayPal X as one of just a handful of companies. We’ve built the Fundrazr application on PayPal’s Adaptive Payments API. Being part of the beta program has allowed us to use these amazing new features in our FundRazr application prior to the official launch of PayPal X on November 3-4, 2009 in San Francisco.

It’s been one amazing journey and more so this last month as we’ve ramped up our development, design, testing and promotion efforts to make this launch day count. For a small team I’ve never seen such amazing commitment and dedication to and unparalleled work ethic before. It’s just awesome.

Our entire journey from an inception over a coffee table to present day is featured in this blog. Or you can just watch our pitch video that got us a place in the demopit at TechCrunch50 validating why we think FundRazr is set to change the game of fundraising and payments in social networks.

How to gain 100 fans in less than 24 hours and change the game

Our small team with huge talent is gearing up to unleash our FundRazr application to the world. We believe FundRazr can change the face of fundraising and fee payments in social networks. This may seem like a bold statement but it’s boldness that changes attitudes, industries and trends. As Steve Jobs, a true visionary of our time, states:

“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of other’s opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary”

Since our time is limited and we have much to do in order to change the game here at ConnectionPoint Systems I’ll keep this brief. I was truly touched last week when Daryl and I reached out to our friends to become a fan of FundRazr. We needed just 100 fans of our Facebook application page to allow us to gain the vanity URL that we can use to link to our application in all business dealings. In less than 24 hours the message I sent out to 100 of my friends to take 5 seconds to support us and become a fan had an 85% response rate – that’s huge. Those of you who did this for us are superstars. Daryl and Agathe also had their friends come on board and before we knew it we had over 100 fans and a fancy new URL – www.facebook.com/fundrazr – check it out now if you haven’t already.

This only amplified the power of social networks to me, and the viral nature of it that allows you to share, engage and connect in more ways than one can imagine in no time at all. I think this is summed up perfectly in this rather amazing video `Did you know’.

It manages to encapsulate some incredible facts in less than 5 minutes including  just how much impact technology is having on the world, how dramatically the population is changing and much more. It finishes with the question `So what does this all mean?’

In my personal opinion, this means that everything we think we know and understand today will look entirely different tomorrow, this may seem extreme but seriously watch the video and acknowledge that this also means whatever you think is impossible is in fact truly possible. So continue to think beyond today, beyond the confines of your every day world to imagine the unimaginable. Dare to be different, to change the game and to make positive change in our world. Dare to dream like you did when you were a kid, nobody told you to stop did they?

On a much less grandiose note, let me know if you wish to be part of our closed beta launch, especially if you organise or manage a club, team, group or cause! natalie@fundrazr.com

Turning the tables upside down

Upside down house courtesy of Telegraph UK

In the scheme of things we’ve had an interesting week so far. Some downer moments followed by some great highs. Sometimes you just have to turn the tables upside down, you have to create the momentum, the mindset and the attitude shift to make things work in your favour. Learn the lessons from the setbacks and focus on what you can turn into key wins.

Daryl has just come back from a great Ebay/PayPal conference in San Francisco where he managed to make HUGE inroads with the right people that will help FundRazr greatly, solve many of our problems and create a potentially brilliant partnership…… that’s all I’m saying for now. On top of that he wrote up a mind dump of all the critical areas we need to focus on and get done, which was luckily the same as the one floating around in my head and I’ve now prioritised so we can become more effective. It’s still daunting but then so many entrepreneurs feel the same way.

The testing this week has been invaluable – thanks to Zeenat, Vincent and Jamie, Troe, Chris, Nate and Dave! The same consistent feedback is coming through, the patterns are forming on what we need to tackle and improve straight off, and in addition some excellent ideas have been suggested – we’ll be prioritising those too.

Clearly one thing that is always on our minds is funding so that we can keep creating this kick ass application and change the game of fundraising and payments in the social network landscape. That’s why I got a great chuckle out of reading this from founder of OnStartups Dharmesh Shah, I particularly like no. 5:

10 Things An Angel Investor Will Never Say

1. I really want to support entrepreneurs — but just those that are going to make me money.

2. I dread having to explain your business idea to my spouse (who can veto any deal).

3. I don’t really have enough stake in your company to spam my network on your behalf.

4. I was lying when I said that some of my best friends were VCs.  Even VCs aren’t best friends with VCs.

5. I have no idea what the hell you’re talking about 50% of the time.  What’s a socially-semantic mobile platform for non-virtual currency mean?  (Oh, it’s an iPhone/Facebook payment app).

6. The other 50% of the time, you have no idea what you’re talking about.  Anti-dilution provisions in a termsheet are not about beer.

7. How the public market did last week does impact my decision making.

8. I like to invest in cool startups because it helps make up for high school.

9. I don’t understand what half the things in the funding agreement mean either, but I’m betting that most of them are to protect me, not you.

10. I really didn’t put the check in the mail the day I said I did.  I was golfing that day.  I sucked.

11. I’m in it to mostly have fun.  If I wanted to do unpleasant work, I’d have my own startup.

It’s come off the back of Venture Capitalists doing something similar

The A+ Alpha test

It’s a Friday afternoon and we’re about to head off for team drinks at So.Cial. Why? Well we think we deserve it. This week we unleashed our application, for the first time, into the hands of View from the top4 wonderful testers and the feedback was invaluable. Just observing them interact with the application was fascinating. Their suggestions, feedback, comments, criticisms, positive statements and actions were all recorded, noted and assessed.

Big thanks to Elizabeth, Kenzo, Sebastian and Debbie for giving us a whole heap of their precious time, energy and feedback. All this testing culminated in a feedback review meeting today with our team, which resulted in some clear actions, some fundamental changes to make and several key learnings. Plus a whole lot of white board action

Next week we have even more testers coming in and we’re loving it. The team know we have a long way to go but it’s such an incredible journey to be on.

Earlier in the week Daryl and I had the pleasure of using one of the Fasken Martineau boardroom’s with the best view (see in the photo on the left). It felt like being on top of the world. A feeling I hope will continue with FundRazr…

Daryl at the head of the table

Despite the beautiful distraction (note the green grass space on the new convention centre’s roof!), we did actually make great progress on better defining our revenue model and felt much better for having taken the time to discuss and debate the key issues.

In the meantime I just loved this video of Ali G pitching a novel idea for dealing with sticky dripping ice-cream – remind me never to pitch to Donald Trump like he does!
